They need new ideas. The best place for them is to recycle old ones.

We've reached a trough in creativity. Look at mainstream music these days! I've never heard so many remixes!

I wonder if they'll make a Live Action Wuzzles....?

I reckon Jim Carrey would be Rhinokey and Queen Latifah would be Hoppo.

I have millions of ideas for shows... it's kinda cool they are reinventing the classics, maybe so they last throughout the ags better...

Cartoons are being mined for film because, by and large, they have an established fan base. I don't have any numbers to support this, but given the relative paucity of theatre-goers, "Hollywood" will take the "easy numbers" any day rather than sink cash into more esoteric or experimental films. Also by licensing out intellectual property from known quantities, the film companies can sink their teeth into a bit of the attendant shwag (i.e., toys, lunch boxes, etc).

With a middling romantic comedy, if it doesn't hit big on the big screen, it may make recoup a few dollars on DVD. But aside from On Demand/PPV, rental services/secondary markets there really aren't a ton of revenue streams left. Whereas with cartoons its more acceptable to not only double dip on the DVD, but to sell birthday party supplies, t-shirts, "collectibles/memorabilia", and the inevitable crappy direct-to-DVD sequels ad infinitum.

Aside from the lack of original ideas, we've hit the point in film technology where we can make a world that once only made sense as a cartoon look convincing in live action via CGI, and do it for a fraction of the cost of paying good actors, experianced directors and imaginative writers. So get ready to see such upcoming projects as Fraggle Rock the movie, live action Thunder Cats and a long string of video game inspired movies which will have little or nothing incommon with the plot of the games.

As Sandrick said, they have the established fan base. This is money that they can count on if no one else has any interest in the film. Another thing is that the people that had watched these cartoons as children have grown up. They are probably more interested in watching a movie based on the cartoons, instead of watching new remakes.

Why did you have to say that twice?

They are carving up our childhoods (The 80s and 90s Kids of us) and making it poorer quality. No wonder these kids are beating off to hentai and anime.

Not necessarily. The upcoming Speed Racer movie is based off a cartoon all the way from the sixties. So it's not just your childhoods being carved up here. But I for don't necessarily think this is a bad thing. Some of these movies I'm actually looking forward to seeing.

BEcause it's about time Speed Racer was made into a movie. That show rocks.

Partially because we are just now getting the technology to make things like the Mach 5 actually be realistic on the big screen. Years ago, it wasn't near as good.

I love old shows becoming movies. It makes me all nostalgic.

For the most part, it's because people will watch movies made off of cartoons. Superhero movies are really popular right now. Not only do kids and teens seem to like them, but a lot of adults saw those cartoons or read those comics when they were young, so they're more likely to go see it for the nostalgic value than a movie they don't no anything about and aren't sure they'll like.

pay no attention to ghostbuster. he goes around rating every Mario and Zelda title a 1/10 just so his 10/10 Halo ratings can be noticed. probably doing the same thing over in Movies section. he's a parasite on this board.

ghostbuster, you're a bloody liar:

http://ghostbuster164.listal.com/all/games/1/?rating=1&display=2column&limit=70&sortby=rating-asc

FF7, SMB2, SMGalaxy, Civ4, GTA:VC, SMSunshine, SMWorld, God of War, Zelda (numerous titles), Wii console, PS2 console, RE4, and so on... basically, if it aint Halo, it gets a 1 out of 10. I stand by my claim that you're useless to this site.

no, it pisses me off when some rates it a 1 out of 10 simply out of hatred (Naruto being the exception. I *known* i'd hate those films). Stop rating games you've never played with a 1 out of 10. Its annoying as fuck.

Give PSO a graphic update equal to the PS2 and NO(I mean NO) game would EVER beat it

It was one of the newer of the many first RPGs out there, originating form Sega Genesis, though it only has Episode I, II and III, Episode I alone already compares pretty well to the other RPGs out there, ALL it needs is graphics, it already has a lot of depth compared to most RPGs, it has 1000s of different weapos, a unique stat system, hundreds and THOUSANDS of hours to play the game and you won't get bored

Basically, if PSO had better graphics(If Sony had told Gamecube when they asked if they could use the Sega Dreamcast version and modify it; "HELL THE FUCK NO!!! WE ARE GUNNA MODIFY IT!!!") Then Halo would be still o the store shelves along with EVERY other game(except the FF Series and a few other games) collecting layers of dust

Baten Kaitos was also good...

anyways, can we get back on topic?
I also didn't like the way Speed Racer characters talked, but the show in general is DEFINITELY worth watching
Though I hate how recent cartoons(Such as Dexter's Lab) tried to copy the Speed Racer style of talking... And did a POOR POOR job of it...

GB, i dont mind you talking about the Dark Knight. But maybe 'talk' about it. It's when everyone just asks a question like 'Who wants to see it?', that's what leads to pointless threads. You start a thread, its your responsibility to say WHY you're looking forward to it, any rumors you may have heard about it, heck, maybe even add screenshots to the movie entry. All those things are beneficial to Listal. But simply asking 'Who wants to see' can be answered by clicking on 'Wants to See' on the items page.

I don't think the industry'll be satisfied until every combination of one thing being made into another thing is exhausted. It's all sloppy multiplication, really.

Look at all those friend requests!
